![]() Pen Cap Restoration
|
Our
customer provided us with a
badly cracked Conway Stewart Model 75 cap. Over time, this
cap
had shrunk around the inner cap which doubtless, expanded with moisture
(ink) resulting in severe splitting to the cap top.
|
||
The cap as it arrived with us. Eight long splits and cracks in it. Unusable in that condition. |
![]() A mandrel was made on a lathe to the precise (original) dimensions of the cap in order to assist in re-gluing the cap with two part jewellers' epoxy. |
![]() A new inner cap was fabricated from hard rubber (which can be seen through the cap top). Then, various parts of the circumference of the top of the cap were progressively glued held in the purpose-made mandrel. |
![]() A new cap button was fabricated, and an old
cap clip re-plated and the
cap
re-assembled.
